How to Create and Animate Your Own Roblox Characters in Blender

If you want to create your own custom Roblox characters in Blender, you need to use Blender's modeling, sculpting, UV mapping, texturing, rigging, skinning, weight painting, and animation tools. Here are some basic steps to follow:

  • In Blender, go to File New General. Delete the default cube by pressing X and choosing Delete.

  • Add a new mesh object by pressing Shift + A and choosing Mesh Cube. This will be the base of your character.

  • Enter Edit Mode by pressing Tab. Use Blender's modeling tools such as extrude (E), inset (I), loop cut (Ctrl + R), etc. to shape your cube into a humanoid form. You can also use sculpting tools such as grab (G), smooth (S), inflate (I), etc. to refine your shape.

  • Exit Edit Mode by pressing Tab. Go to Object Data Properties and enable Auto Smooth under Normals. This will make your character look smoother.

  • Add materials and textures to your character by going to Material Properties and Texture Properties. You can use Blender's built-in materials and textures or create your own using nodes or images.

  • UV map your character by going to UV Editing workspace. Select your character and enter Edit Mode by pressing Tab. Press A to select all faces. Press U and choose Smart UV Project. This will unwrap your character onto a 2D plane. You can then adjust the UV map by moving, scaling, rotating, etc. the faces on the UV Editor.

  • Rig your character by going to Layout workspace. Press Shift + A and choose Armature Single Bone. This will add a single bone to your scene. Enter Edit Mode by pressing Tab. Use Blender's rigging tools such as extrude (E), subdivide (W), etc. to create a skeleton for your character. Make sure each bone is named appropriately according to its function (e.g., head, spine, arm, leg, etc.).

  • Skin your character by selecting both your character and your armature and pressing Ctrl + P. Choose With Automatic Weights. This will assign weights to each vertex of your character according to the influence of each bone. You can then adjust the weights by going to Weight Paint mode and using Blender's weight painting tools such as draw (D), blur (B), subtract (S), etc.

  • Animate your character by going to Animation workspace. Select your armature and enter Pose Mode by pressing Ctrl + Tab. Use Blender's animation tools such as insert keyframe (I), move (G), rotate (R), scale (S), etc. to create poses for your character. You can also use the graph editor, the dope sheet, and the NLA editor to edit and refine your animation curves, keyframes, and actions.

How to Publish Your Blender Creations on Roblox

After you have created your models, animations, and accessories in Blender, you might want to publish them on Roblox and share them with other users. To do that, you need to follow these steps:
